and give an, erm, ‘surprise’ to your loved ones who were expecting ‘Ho Ho Ho’, but had to go ‘No No Noooo’ instead?
OK, jokes aside, the answer I was looking for is that Halloween is the only holiday that has a successful movie franchise named after it.
Don’t know what I’m talking about?

I know what you’re thinking.
Did I forget, or have I never heard of, the Black Christmas film series?
The thing with the Black Christmas films is that while the 1974 one was undoubtedly a masterpiece…
The 2006 one was...let’s just say it didn’t live up to the standards set by the original film.
And the 2019 film...I’ll be generous and say it was OK. But, even then, it just took on the name, and had precious little to do with the 1974 one.
In all, not exactly what I’d call a successful film franchise.
OK, horror movie debate over, now let’s shift our attention to how you can best celebrate Halloween 2021 in Chicago.

Let’s start with the weather.
What kind of weather is Chicago looking at on Halloween Day?

Well, as NBC Chicago puts it, the weather gods decided to give the good people of Chicago a treat on Halloween.
The weather is expected to be ‘mostly sunny’. In short, we’re OK weather-wise.

First things first, Halloween’s set to be a whole lot better than last year.
You can celebrate Halloween 2021 to your heart’s content, only remember these precautions:
Face masks are required in public indoor settings.
A costume mask does not count as a COVID face mask.
The state guidance suggests that people avoid putting on a COVID face mask, and then a Halloween face covering on top of that, as that might make it difficult for people to breathe.
If you’re going trick or treating, doing it outdoors in small groups is the best option.
And remember to keep washing/sanitizing your hands periodically!
With those pieces of advice in mind, let’s take a look at a few Chicago activities and events you can slip into your Halloween 2021 plans.

Go trick or treating at Cafe Ba Ba Reeba. Go in your favorite Halloween costume, and you just might find a free dessert has appeared at your table!
Join the undead…

From what I hear, they’ll be resurrecting some of their past dishes this year.
Escape a serial killer’s lair
Yes, I’m very serious.
Chicago’s best loved escape room (yes, that’s us) has a serial killer escape game that you can attempt to beat.
Be warned though, I cannot guarantee what may happen if you fail to make it out of the room in time!
Have a pet dog?

Then, deck ‘em up in the best Howloween (yes, I just did that) outfit that you can, and turn up at Andros Taverna a little earlier than 2:30 in the afternoon.
Not only will dogs in costumes get free house-made dog treats, but they’ll also be entered into a raffle to win prizes donated by local businesses.
And finally, a portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Paws Chicago to support animal rescues.
